LEGO Ben 10 returns, but not in the form OG fans will remember

Fortnite has added even more LEGO content, this time in the form of Ben 10 minifigures, but there’s no sign of the original theme’s Alien Force sets.

The latest content drop to arrive in LEGO Fortnite is based around the classic Cartoon Network series, Ben 10, and brings with it minifigure versions of the character and his sister Gwen, along with unique pickaxes, back blings, emotes and more items. While fans of a certain age may get excited at the prospect of playing with those characters in the game, the now-retired theme’s original sets are all MIA.

Six LEGO Ben 10: Alien Force models were released (and discontinued) all the way back in 2010, which featured Bionicle-style versions of some of the character’s more popular creature transformations. Those included 8409 Spidermonkey, 84210 Swampfire, 8411 Chromastone, 8517 Humungousaur, 8518 Jet Ray and 8519 Big Chill, all of which appeared in the animated TV show.

However, none of those models came with LEGO Ben 10 minifigures, so the digital Fortnite versions of the characters represent the first time they’ve ever appeared in any format. Interestingly, the sets were in fact a subtheme of LEGO Technic, with the brick-built action figures constructed from between just 14 and 22 pieces, including redesigned ball and socket joints, plus glow-in-the-dark eyes and a chest Omnitrix, Ben’s alien transformation device.

Despite speculation at the time that LEGO Ben 10: Alien Force might act as something of a spiritual successor to Bionicle, that accolade instead went to LEGO HERO Factory, a constraction theme that also launched in 2010 and would go on to run until 2014.

Those who want to check out Ben 10 in LEGO Fortnite can do so my heading to the Item Shop right now and pick up a discounted bundle for 4,000 V-Bucks, which includes Styles for Ben and Gwen, plus other goodies, or choose from a selection of individual characters and extras to use in the game.
