LEGO BrickLink Series 1 and 2 excess stock coming soon to select regions

The LEGO Group is offering fans in select regions the chance to purchase excess BrickLink Designer Program Series 1 and 2 sets next week.

Following May’s restock of Series 1 and 2 sets in the US and Canada, the BrickLink team is now making surplus models available to shoppers in Australia, New Zealand and Japan. You’ll need to be subscribed to BrickLink’s marketing emails to access the sale, which starts on December 16 at 9am AEDT.

BrickLink Designer Program sets are typically only available to purchase during a limited crowdfunding window, but the LEGO Group has now started to clear out excess stock from the earliest series. These leftover boxes are generally a result of cancelled orders or additional sets produced to cover lost or damaged shipments, and are only available to sell once all orders have been fulfilled.

“Sometimes we end up with a small number of additional BDP sets at the end of our production process,” the LEGO Group explained in May. “That’s the case with BDP Series 1 and 2. Inventory is very limited, so don’t wait if you want to get your hands on one of these rare fan-designed sets!”

That warning was regarding the US and Canada restocks, but the same likely applies again for Japan, New Zealand and Australia this time round: there aren’t going to be many of these available, so best be on the button the moment they go live. Although even that was no guarantee last time, as dozens of shoppers reported having their seemingly successful orders cancelled due to ‘lack of stock’.

The LEGO Group’s inventory system is apparently still susceptible to the same stock management problems, too, as dozens more fans saw their 10305 Lion Knights’ Castle orders cancelled during LEGO Insiders Weekend. Don’t be too surprised if you get an order in for one of these extra BrickLink Designer Program sets and later see it cancelled… and don’t be surprised either if you’re able to access the sale early, as orders for 910029 Mountain Fortress reportedly went live five minutes ahead of time in the US.

BrickLink is currently coming under fire from the community for its planned closure in 35 countries, including in comments on unrelated social media posts. The team has issued an apology for how the closures were communicated and has delayed action until January.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
