LEGO BrickLink Series 11 by the numbers: castle, pirates and more

Voting is underway on BrickLink Designer Program Series 11’s nearly 600 submissions, so here’s how those break down across themes including castle, pirates and more.

A total of 578 potential fan-designed sets are in contention for Series 11 of the crowdfunded program (one down from when voting first began yesterday), and as per previous series the filters offer a breakdown of the themes for those submissions. At the moment, 138 are lumped together under the Medieval/Castle category, which is around 24% of the total number.

That’s almost on par with Series 10’s 599 submissions, of which 22% were themed around Medieval/Castle. Series 9 featured 129 Medieval/Castle submissions among 436 total, for a greater percentage focused on historic builds but around the same number in real terms. That suggests the number of castle-themed submissions is holding steady from series to series.

Is it surprising? Not necessarily. A medieval set of some sort is pretty much guaranteed to occupy one of the five slots available in each series, but with such fierce competition builders arguably stand a better chance cooking up something original for one of the other four slots. There will always be a dedicated stable of castle builders contributing to each series, though.

Here’s a quick look at the general makeup of Series 11’s submissions. These percentages will add up to greater than 100 because some models may fall under two categories simultaneously. Listed in brackets are the ratios from Series 10 for comparison.

CategoryPercentage of total submissions
Medieval / Castle23.8% (22.2%)
Vehicle / Boat / Airplane9.3% (9.5%)
Train8.5% (6.7%)
Space / Sci-Fi / Fantasy16.6% (12.7%)
Art / Object7% (6.2%)
Building24.4% (24.7%)
Floral / Nature / Animal12.8% (8.8%)
Pirate10.7% (5.8%)
History / Period9.2% (3.7%)

That percentages for each category are up almost across the board suggests there’s more overlap than in Series 10 here, but their respective vote share remains pretty consistent. ‘Building’ is so generic and all-encompassing as a category that it’ll come as no surprise to see it top the list again, while the number of trains, vehicles, boats and airplanes is roughly the same as last time.

Pirates fans will be happy to see the percentage of swashbuckling projects nearly doubling, however, while the number of History/Period builds has also jumped from Series 10. You can browse through and vote on all 578 projects over on the BrickLink Series 11 landing page – the LEGO Group will take crowd support into account when selecting the five finalists that will enter crowdfunding.

Voting is open through May 25, and the finalists will be revealed on June 20. Crowdfunding for Series 11 will take place in June 2027, with sets shipping from November 2027.

Next up for the BrickLink Designer Program is crowdfunding for Series 8, which gets underway on June 9 at 8am PT / 4pm BST. Check out the finalised designs and prices for that series here.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
