How have LEGO BrickLink Series 4 sets changed from their initial designs?
The LEGO BrickLink Designer Program Series 4 set designs make massive changes compared to the original builds, doubling minifigures and more.
With the reveal of the LEGO BrickLink Designer Program Series 4 final set designs, you might be surprised to see just how much they’ve changed from their initial submissions and rest assured that they’ve changed.
Whether you’re looking forward to the Siege Encampment or the Wild West Train, it will be worth digging back into the builds before crowdfunding starts next month as some of the model makeovers are considerable. Here’s a look at exactly how each model has changed from fan design to the final set. For each of the below galleries, the fan design is on the left and the final set is on the right, with statistics between the fan designs and final sets compared individually too.
Siege Encampment

Of the five Series 4 sets, the Siege Encampment hasn’t changed all that much with the introduction of stickers and more elements to switch factions, but 39 elements have been removed in the finalised version despite this, though the number of stickers has increased from six to 11.
With the revised guidelines for the program, the number of minifigures in SleeplessNight’s model has doubled from 9 to 18, ready to siege any fortress you have in mind.
| Stage | Pieces | Stickers | Minifigures |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fan design | 2,637 | 6 | 9 |
| Final | 2,598 | 11 | 18 |
Medieval Seaside Market

The Medieval Seaside Market’s changes may not seem dramatic, but they’re deceptively substantial. The original modular functionality has been expanded greatly with more of the build able to be reconfigured than before, adding more than 300 pieces to the total count as a result.
Two more minifigures have been added too, increasing the size of the set considerably ready for crowdfunding next month.
| Stage | Pieces | Stickers | Minifigures |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fan design | 2,183 | 0 | 7 |
| Final | 2,560 | 0 | 9 |
Riverside Scholars

The latest in Hanwas’ collection of BrickLink builds is the Riverside Scholars, which hasn’t changed all that much considering the rest of the series.
Though some building techniques have changed to more reliable methods, the layout remains the same and only a single minifigure has been added for a parts difference of less than 80 elements.
| Stage | Pieces | Stickers | Minifigures |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fan design | 2,692 | 0 | 4 |
| Final | 2,769 | 2 | 5 |
Wild West Train

Heading to the Wild West, the Wild West Train has had some considerable changes, including a whole extra car being added to the train. The suggested metallic sheen on the front of the train has been removed but in its place are six more minifigures.
The water tower’s railing is more simple than originally proposed and horses have been added to the experience to complete the Wild West scene. Overall, the piece count now stretches to over 3,100 parts with three more stickers to boot.
| Stage | Pieces | Stickers | Minifigures |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fan design | 2,760 | 14 | 6 |
| Final | 3,192 | 17 | 12 |
Merchant Boat

The Merchant Boat has also doubled its number of minifigures but overall, there’s not a lot of change to mention for this set. It’s hard to improve on perfection apparently.
The sticker at the front of the boat has been changed from ‘NC .1998’ to BL – 1998, likely referencing BrickLink and two more minifigures have been added but with this particular model, the BrickLink team didn’t see fit to change too much.
| Stage | Pieces | Stickers | Minifigures |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fan design | 1,933 | 3 | 2 |
| Final | 2,180 | 3 | 4 |
