LEGO busts are the natural heirs to the Helmet Collection crown

The existing LEGO Helmet Collection could potentially be succeeded by a new mini bust subtheme, if the reveal of two upcoming models is any indication.

Two new LEGO Marvel models were officially revealed today, with 76326 Iron Spider-Man Bust and 76327 Iron Man MK4 Bust due to launch August 1 and June 1 respectively. The pair of upcoming builds look to be the start of an intriguing subtheme, one that at first glance may appear to be the next evolution of the existing LEGO Helmet Collection.

Releases from the LEGO Helmet Collection have been a little thin on the ground recently, with only 75429 AT-AT Driver Helmet having been launched so far this year, although rumours suggest more such models may be on the way in the months to come.

Despite LEGO Helmet Collection builds having covered the likes of Star Wars, Marvel and DC headgear to date, there’s been one item missing from those models that may result in any potential new bust subtheme releases ultimately proving to be more popular in the longterm.

We’ve mentioned in a number of previous LEGO Helmet Collection reviews that the sets are lacking minifigures, although for many fans that may not be an issue. However, the fact that 76326 Iron Spider-Man Bust and 76327 Iron Man MK4 Bust go one further and include both printed nameplates and minifigures for a similar price point might be the deciding factor for some collectors.

That’s not to say that the LEGO Marvel busts may be without some issues though, with official images revealing that the heads of both heroes appear to sacrifice some of the finer details that sets such as 76285 Spider-Man’s Mask and 76165 Iron Man Helmet delivered.

There’s also the tantalising thought of potential LEGO Star Wars, Marvel and DC mini busts also packing in desirable minifigures at some point, although that’s just speculation on our part for now.

Time will tell whether or not the LEGO mini bust collection has what it takes to usurp the larger LEGO Helmet Collection, but for now it certainly seems to be off to an interesting head start.

76326 Iron Spider-Man Bust launches on August 1 priced at £54.99 / $59.99 / €59.99, while 76327 Iron Man MK4 Bust arrives on June 1 for £54.99 / $59.99 / €59.99.
