LEGO Castle could grow its ranks for the first time in over a decade

A future LEGO Ideas set will feature a LEGO Castle minifigure for one of four factions, including brand-new groups for the first time in over 10 years.

A crowd vote for the LEGO Ideas Minifigure Prize Machine set, which will include a new colour of Classic Space astronaut and a LEGO Castle faction minifigure as voted by the community, has just begun. For Castle fans, the options include the familiar Bulls and Crows as well as two fresh factions for the theme – the Griffins and Krakens.

This is a huge moment for the long-running theme as there hasn’t been a new faction in over a decade and a LEGO Ideas Minifigure Prize Machine could be the next set to debut one.

The history of LEGO Castle and its factions may be daunting to those unfamiliar as there’s plenty of crossover between the factions’ iconography. Treating each new icon on symbols and banners as a new faction, which seems sensible given the reuse of classic emblems in the modern 10305 Lion Knights’ Castle, the last new faction in LEGO Castle would be a mysterious dragon-centric group featured in 70403 Dragon Mountain from 2013.

Comparing the dragon mountain set to the upcoming Minifigure Prize Machine, the future model is undoubtedly an odd place for a LEGO Castle faction to debut.

It still means that either the Krakens or Griffins, depending on whether either is picked in the fan vote, are the first potential new additions to the list of LEGO Castle’s factions in over a decade though.

It’s entirely possible that either the Crows, last seen in 71027 Series 20, or The Bulls who have yet to return since debuting in 2000 will be chosen in the fan vote though the prospect of a new faction being added to the extensive lore of LEGO Castle is exciting, to say the least.

We’ll have to see which option wins in the crowd vote for the Minifigure Prize Machine LEGO Ideas set and you can cast your vote by clicking here or read more about the future model’s similar vote for Classic Space.

LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.
