LEGO confirms Wicked and Wednesday will continue in 2025

An interview with a LEGO executive appears to confirm a bright future for LEGO Wicked and Wednesday in 2025.

LEGO Wicked and Wednesday both launched in 2024, although some rumours suggest that LEGO Wicked could get as many as four more sets in 2025, including one 18+ model. That would align with the fact that we’ll get the sequel movie, telling the second part of the iconic stage play’s story, this year.

Although there are no rumours for any LEGO Wednesday sets that we’ve seen, the second season of the Netflix series is expected to debut in the second half of 2025, which would also align well with another wave of sets. In a recent interview with Toy World Magazine, both themes were confirmed by a LEGO executive to continue this year, implying future waves are indeed in the works.

“We’ve pulled off some incredible things in-aisle, online and in secondary spaces”, said Christian Pau, Vice President and General Manager of the LEGO Group UK & Ireland. “We’re grateful to still have those opportunities available to us and we’ll be building on this heading into 2025.

“Last year’s launches focused on major entertainment and gaming licenses such as Wicked, Wednesday, and Animal Crossing, all of which will continue in 2025,” he added.

LEGO Animal Crossing has already had three sets come out this year on January 1, with more rumoured to be on the way. While the wording from Christian is vague and doesn’t absolutely confirm future waves, it does make them seem very likely and adds weight to the existing rumours.

Core themes are also booming

Elsewhere in the interview, Christian went on to note that it’s not just licensed partnerships like Wicked, Wednesday, and Animal Crossing that are performing well.

“We also introduced plenty of innovation within core ranges such as Creator, which is performing very well, as well as new themes including our Botanicals range,” he explained. “Looking ahead, we’ll be building on this success with new partnerships and licensing deals.”

The notion of “new partnerships and licensing deals” within Creator and Botanicals is an interesting concept, particularly for the latter. We’ve had some fictional plants already based on third-party IPs already, such as LEGO Super Mario 71426 Piranha Plant and LEGO Harry Potter 76433 Mandrake, but there’s plenty more room for possible experimentation down that road.

Of course, we won’t know for sure what’s in store for those themes until we get official confirmation from the LEGO Group. However, it’s heartening to see that the LEGO Group won’t be playing it safe, even with core themes like Creator 3-in-1 and Botanicals.

I write about all the very best fandoms – and that means LEGO, of course. Spending so much time looking at and talking about LEGO sets is dangerous for my bank balance, but the LEGO shelves are thriving. You win some, you lose some.
