LEGO cuts short shelf lives of Blacktron, Dune and new collection starters
The LEGO Group has pulled forward the retirement of multiple LEGO Icons sets, including Blacktron, Dune and two builds that have each attempted to start a new collection in 2025.
It’s all change for the theme formerly known as Creator Expert this month, as seven sets are now retiring sooner than originally anticipated – while another has received an 18-month extension to its current shelf life. The biggest swings see three 2025 sets, 10355 Blacktron Renegade, 10359 Fountain Garden and 10362 French Café, move forward from initial December 2028 retirements to July 2026.
Such a sudden shift in retiring date suggests these sets have perhaps not performed as well as the LEGO Group anticipated, though it’s tricky to draw concrete conclusions from the moving and shaking of retirement dates. Either way, it’s probably not great news for the Gardens of the World and Restaurants of the World collections, which are headlined by 10359 Fountain Garden and 10362 French Café respectively.
Setting sail in the opposite direction is 10294 Titanic, which will now stay on shelves until at least the end of 2028. That’s a two-year extension on its previous end-of-life date, so good news for anyone yet to save up for the 135cm-long cruise liner. But the rest of the changes to the list of retiring LEGO Icons sets this month are otherwise all about cutting shelf lives short.
10327 Dune Atreides Royal Ornithopter and 10331 Kingfisher Bird were both scheduled to retire in December 2027, but will now be gone by July 2026; as will 10302 Optimus Prime and 10307 Eiffel Tower, both of which were originally planned to hang around until the end of next year. Those latter two sets are part of a wider shake up across the portfolio for 2026.
