LEGO Batman Forever Batmobile’s minifigure was a deliberate choice

The designer behind 76304 Batman Forever Batmobile has revealed why one specific minifigure was chosen to accompany the upcoming LEGO DC set.

The LEGO DC theme welcomes 76304 Batman Forever Batmobile to its vehicular line-up next month, with the 909-piece model arriving on August 1 to celebrate the 1995 film’s 30th anniversary this year.

As well as the Dark Knight’s sleek black car, 76304 Batman Forever Batmobile also comes with a Batman Sonar Suit minifigure, based on the character’s unique tech-based costume in the movie. However, more options for which minifigures to include in the LEGO DC set were considered during the development process, as was the final character selection over other possibilities.

Brick Fanatics had the opportunity to chat to the model’s designer, Mark Stafford, in a recent roundtable interview, where he explained why one specific version of Batman was ultimately chosen for inclusion and which other movie characters almost made the grade.

“I think it was more that the suit he has on, except perhaps for the nipples, is quite similar to the one that was in the previous two Tim Burton movies,” Mark elaborated. “It’s still very black with the yellow symbol, whereas the Sonar Suit was a distinctly-different Batman, which only appears in this movie, and therefore the only time we would do this suit would be for this set.”

“If we did more of a play-themed set for [Batman Forever] with minifigures and stuff, then the more traditional Batman might be the way we’d go, but for this one, for a largely display-based set, we ultimately went with the Sonar Suit.”

In addition, while some fans may have been hoping for minifigures of Jim Carrey’s Riddler or Tommy Lee Jones’ Two-Face, the LEGO DC designer had other potential characters in mind when it came to creating the set.

“Why not Chase Meridian?”, suggests Mark. “I mean, another Nicole Kidman minifigure would have been nice, or even Sugar and Spice. I’d love to have done a Drew Barrymore minifigure. That would have been awesome.”

76304 Batman Forever Batmobile is available to pre-order now for £89.99 / $99.99 / €99.99 and the LEGO DC will be released on August 1, 2025.
