LEGO Star Wars 75435 Battle of Felucia Separatist MTT review

The droids finally feel some LEGO Star Wars love in 75435 Battle of Felucia Separatist MTT, but this is another summer 2025 set that comes at a cost.

It’s been 11 years since we last saw an MTT on shelves, and we’ve never had one in Separatist dark blue and grey, so on paper 75435 Battle of Felucia Separatist MTT sounds like a winner. And while there are things to love about this set, they’re all within the context of LEGO Star Wars’ current downsizing crusade – and the cynically high prices of this latest summer wave.

LEGO Star Wars 75435 Battle of Felucia Separatist MTT review 3 1024x683

If you were hoping for a return to the size and scale of 2007’s 7662 MTT, still the version of this vehicle to beat for sheer grandeur, 75435 Battle of Felucia Separatist MTT is not the set you’re looking for. This is closer in scope to 2014’s 75058 MTT, a fact easily discerned by the number of Battle Droids that can fit on its deployable rack (the benchmark for all LEGO MTTs).

In this case, it’s six – at least as it comes in the box, although bunching them closer together on either side can instantly upgrade that number to eight. Why that wasn’t done as standard can only be attributed to budgetary reasons (more on that soon). That’s the same number of droids as could fit in the 2014 version, only here the mechanism to release them from the tank is much more complex.

Where in the previous set the rack simply pushed forward in place with the droids in a standing position, here an ill-disguised crank on the back of the tank first pushes out the rack, then drops it down to the floor, with the droids more accurately folded up and attached by means of their rear studs. It’s a genuine improvement on previous MTT mechanisms and satisfying to operate, not least because it can retract just as easily (and even closes both hatches at the front automatically, thanks to a well-placed chain).

Putting that mechanism together forms the bulk of the early stages of the build, occupying as it does most of the interior of the Multi-Troop Transport. It’s more interesting than the later stages, which mostly involve building the panels that form the shell of the tank, but playing around with a dark blue and light grey colour scheme is still more enjoyable than the traditional brown of Trade Federation MTTs.

The finished model looks the part too, capturing the proportions of the MTT well even if not at quite the scale you’d hope for from a set that retails for £139.99 / $159.99 / €149.99. This isn’t the worst offender in the LEGO Star Wars summer 2025 range, but it’s still not one you’ll be satisfied with if you pay full price – not least because the droids are doing a lot of heavy lifting in the minifigure department.

Strictly speaking, 75435 Battle of Felucia Separatist MTT really only includes two standard minifigures in Aayla Secura and Commander Bly. Six standard B1s, a Battle Droid Pilot and three Commando Droids – returning for the first time in a good while, now in pearl dark grey rather than brown – make up the remainder, and that’s logical for a Separatist vehicle.

But the problem is that this is a set priced like it includes many more regular minifigures, which are inherently more valuable than droids, so a couple of 327th Star Corps Clone Troopers (even if repeated from the battle pack released this wave) would have gone a long way to making it feel better value. As is, we’re left with a downsized model that costs as much as you’d expect a modern version of 7662 MTT (in size and scope) to retail for.

Aayla Secura is at least a well-designed minifigure, if not the Jedi in direst need of a remake (she hasn’t changed much from her 2017 version, and for good reason), but for minifigure collectors 75435 Battle of Felucia Separatist MTT is really all about Commander Bly. He’s not worth the asking price all on his own, of course, but he does pair very nicely with his squad in 75431 327th Star Corps Clone Troopers Battle Pack

LEGO Star Wars 75435 Battle of Felucia Separatist MTT review 24 1024x683

The summer 2025 LEGO Star Wars range has two very complementary sets in 75435 Battle of Felucia Separatist MTT and 75431 327th Star Corps Clone Troopers Battle Pack, which seem so purposefully designed to be bought together that you have to wonder whether they were once all part of the same box.

A blueprint for that already exists in 75337 AT-TE Walker, a set that the LEGO Star Wars team has previously described as an oversized battle pack, and includes Commander Cody and three 212th Clone Troopers (or for a more recent example, 75413 Republic Juggernaut includes Commander Bacara and three Galactic Marines).

The trade-off is that amassing vast quantities of 212th troopers isn’t easy, while separating out the 327th troopers to a standalone battle pack makes them more readily available to army-build. If only it wasn’t for the price… because the setup you see here retails for a staggering £175 combined. For that money you’re getting 1,234 pieces, six regular minifigures and 13 droids.

What you’re not getting is any actual hint that we’re on Felucia beyond the minifigures, which is a shame given this is a planet we’ve not really seen represented in LEGO before, and has colours and visuals that lend themselves to a small terrain build akin to the slices of Pandora scattered across the LEGO Avatar sets. The LEGO Group knows what it’s doing, though, because if you buy either one of these sets you’re going to want the full combo regardless.

Best advice is to wait for generous discounts on both – there are better value sets among the LEGO Star Wars summer wave…

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
