LEGO debuts new forest of trees at upcoming Vietnam factory

A veritable forest, consisting of 50,000 trees, has been finished near the under-construction LEGO factory in Vietnam ahead of schedule.

A year after it was first promised, the LEGO Group’s plans to plant 50,000 trees to offset the impact of a new factory on the environment in Vietnam have been realised. Deputy Prime Minister of Vietnam Le Minh Khai, national and provincial officials, as well as business and community partners all attended the event as the final tree was planted.

This is ahead of the previously revealed schedule, which stated that 35,000 trees would be planted in 2023 and 2024 combined. At the time of the original report in 2022, 15,000 trees had been planted.

“Today is about taking a moment to celebrate the positive environmental and community-focused momentum the LEGO Group has had in Vietnam, as well as recognizing the significant progress we’ve made in the construction of our state-of-the-art factory – our most sustainable to date,” commented Preben Elnef, general manager of LEGO Manufacturing Vietnam and vice president of the LEGO Group

“As construction is underway, we are grateful for the continued support from the authorities and our many partners, whose collaboration has ensured that we are on track to begin production in the second half of 2024, allowing us to reach even more children with learning through play and creating long-term growth in the Asia-Pacific region.”

The 50,000 trees are part of the LEGO Group’s ongoing efforts towards reducing its carbon footprint, which include this carbon-neutral factory

This is just the latest in the factory’s journey to completion. Future phases will include community partnerships to benefit 5,000 children and the employment of 100 employees by the end of 2023 as well as up to 500 before 2024 is done. The new factory is currently scheduled to begin production in the second half of 2024.

LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.
