LEGO designer reveals why it was time to revisit Helicarrier
LEGO Marvel 76354 S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier revisits the iconic movie after 11 years, and the designer behind the build has revealed why it was time.
There are an abundance of differences between the 2015 and 2016 Helicarrier models, despite the fact that the two are nearly the same size. It’s clear to see that the new pieces, building techniques, and more that have debuted in the past decade have massively impacted the huge Helicarrier set design.
It still leaves us to wonder why now, 11 years later, was the right time to revisit the huge LEGO Helicarrier, especially after the more recent midi-scale Helicarrier build. Thankfully, the designer behind the set had a lot to say on the topic at Fan Media Days 2025.

“It’s been a long time since we did this scale of Helicarrier,” explained Mark Stafford to MiniSuperHeroesToday. “The previous large helicarrier was the same size as this, within a few studs anyway. When we look at [the old Helicarrier set], it’s still a very nice, impressive model, but it is not accurate. It doesn’t look like it does in the movie. It looks like a LEGO-ised version of it.”
While you might think that a LEGO Helicarrier should look like a LEGO version of the Helicarrier, there’s been a change in the mindset within the LEGO design teams. It’s stated that sets aimed at older audiences now strive for a mix of high accuracy to the source material and that LEGO nature. The latter just has to be applied in different ways.
“We’re seeing other bits of LEGO, like Speed Champions, Star Wars, and others, revisiting models and making them look as close to movie-accurate as we can get, with techniques that we can show in pictures anyway,” Mark continued. “That was the idea here; it was the ultimate building experience version of this.

“Obviously, there are things here which I’ve brick-built, like the lines on the runway, which are much thicker than they are in the movie, but it means you get to build them rather than putting hundreds of stickers on.”
The new 76354 S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier still features many stickers, which you can find out more about by clicking here. This new take on the Helicarrier 11 years later otherwise improves on the overall accuracy of the LEGO vehicle compared to the original Avengers movie.
You can take a closer look at the LEGO Helicarrier for yourself when 76354 S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier is released on June 1, 2026, for £329.99 / $399.99 / €369.99. Pre-orders are open now and will currently qualify for a gift-with-purchase.
