LEGO designers have been talking about bringing back The Lord of the Rings for a decade

LEGO The Lord of the Rings’ return has been in the works for a decade, according to the designers behind the set in an exclusive interview with Brick Fanatics.

Being a LEGO designer is a pretty sweet gig, if you ask us, so it’s no surprise that the LEGO designers of 10316 The Lord of the Rings: Rivendell have been at the company for many years.

As such, they can also offer insights into just how long it can take for a LEGO theme or set to make it from conception to shelves – even when it has the backing of experienced LEGO designers.

“In all those years, we’ve asked so many times: can we do Lord of the Rings as a new theme?” LEGO designer Mike Psiaki told Brick Fanatics in an exclusive interview. “We have creative boosts where we get to pitch any ideas that we want to have – and this is something that we’ve been talking about doing for 10 years.”

“I can’t say exactly why now was the exact right time to do it,” he continued. “I can just say that I was very excited to get to be involved and see this thing that we’ve been pushing for so long finally come to fruition.”
