LEGO says The Mandalorian Season 3 has ‘plenty of scenarios’ for future sets

The Mandalorian Season 3 wrapped up on Disney+ this week, and the LEGO Star Wars design team says there are ‘plenty of scenarios’ for future sets.

The continuing adventures of Din Djarin and Grogu came to a head in Chapter 24 of The Mandalorian, titled ‘The Return’. So far, the LEGO Group has officially revealed three sets based on the new season: 75346 Pirate Snub Fighter, 75361 Spider Tank and 75363 The Mandalorian’s N-1 Starfighter Microfighter. But according to the LEGO Star Wars team, there’s plenty of potential for more.

Spoilers follow for The Mandalorian Season 3’s finale.

Culminating in a huge action sequence on (and above) Mandalore, Chapter 24 of The Mandalorian sees Din Djarin, Bo-Katan Kryze and two tribes of Mandos come together to reclaim their home planet – and defeat the returning Moff Gideon. What follows is a sandbox of Star Wars action figures tussling in what can only be described as a live-action Saturday morning cartoon.

So while the season as a whole has divided opinions (to say the least), you can immediately see how much of the finale could serve as a basis for new LEGO Star Wars sets and minifigures: a new Imperial Light Cruiser, the Imperial base on Mandalore, Moff Gideon in his Beskar exo-suit, the Mandalorian-themed Praetorian Guards, and so on. Thankfully, the LEGO Star Wars team agrees.

“We just watched a fantastic, exciting episode yesterday,” LEGO Star Wars Design Manager Michael Lee Stockwell tells Brick Fanatics and other LEGO Fan Media in a roundtable session. “Everybody’s very inspired by what we saw yesterday. We don’t have a lot of insight ahead of time, so we’ll have to see what we come up with, but it’s all inspiring. So we’re already looking forward to the next season.”

“Yeah, a lot of cool new characters, a lot of cool new action scenes, plenty of scenarios for us to lean into,” adds graphic designer Maddy O’Neil.

“But also some brought into live-action like the Gauntlet, we’ve never seen that before,” LEGO designer Nathan Clark chimes in. “I’d love to see a Gauntlet.”

We’ve technically already seen the Mandalorian Kom’rk-Class Gauntlet in LEGO in 2021’s 75316 Mandalorian Starfighter, but that was based on the animated Clone Wars ship. And it’s also much smaller than the starfighter we see on-screen, particularly in The Mandalorian – so a true minifigure-scale version would be much bigger, potentially rivalling 75192 Millennium Falcon in size and scope.

That’s only one idea tossed around by the designers, anyway (based on what they’d personally like to see, rather than what’s actually coming), so don’t take it as any guarantee that we’re going to see another LEGO Mandalorian Gauntlet any time soon. But more sets based on the season in general feel likely, especially now we’re out of spoiler territory.

Gideon in his red and black armour would be a good start, but let us know in the comments which LEGO Star Wars sets you’d like to see from The Mandalorian Season 3.

Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
