LEGO Education retires SPIKE and launches Computer Science & AI kit

LEGO Education has announced plans for a new brick-based kit designed to help teach computer science and AI in schools.

The LEGO Group’s school-facing arm, LEGO Education, has announced a new kit and curriculum focusing on computer science and AI, geared towards those in K-8 classrooms (aged between five and 14 years old). Shipping in April 2026, LEGO Education Computer Science & AI starts from $339.95 per kit, which breaks down to a cost of $84.98 per student.

According to a report conducted by LEGO Education, many teachers stated that they lacked the right tools to engage their students in these subjects. In fact, more than half of teachers around the world said that current resources leave students ‘bored’, while just under half said that computer science isn’t relatable and doesn’t connect to students’ day-to-day interests.

“We have a vision for kids learning, building, and coding together – moving away from classrooms where kids work individually on computers with headphones on,” said Atish Gonsalves, Head of Product for Computer Science & AI at LEGO Education.

Each LEGO Education Computer Science & AI kit is designed for students to work in groups of four, with guidance for teachers to facilitate hands-on lessons. They include LEGO bricks, hardware, and lessons that are accessible for beginners.

“The future will be led by children who don’t just use technology – they understand it, question it, and ultimately build a better world with it,” said Andrew Sliwinski, Head of Product Experience at LEGO Education. “AI presents incredible opportunities for learning, but it must be introduced with intention and care. This is why we developed a solution for the classroom grounded in the LEGO Group’s values of child safety, privacy, and well-being.”

With the upcoming launch of LEGO Education Computer Science & AI and the recent introduction of LEGO Education Science, LEGO Education also confirmed that the SPIKE kits will retire to make way for the new addition.

LEGO Education Computer Science & AI will begin shipping in April 2026, starting at $339.95 per kit, which is a cost of only $84.98 per student. To learn more, visit LEGOeducation.com/CS-AI.

I write about all the very best fandoms – and that means LEGO, of course. Spending so much time looking at and talking about LEGO sets is dangerous for my bank balance, but the LEGO shelves are thriving. You win some, you lose some.
