LEGO Education’s new line offers path for monorail comeback

LEGO Education’s next generation of classroom kits will debut a new track system that would work wonders for a monorail comeback.

Calls for a return of a LEGO monorail have been consistent in recent years, and speculation online has led some fans to believe that the LEGO Group has teased it right under our noses. While most of these hopes and speculations have resulted in no further progress in the return of the LEGO monorail system from the era of Classic Space, something interesting has come from LEGO Education, of all places.

LEGO Education’s new era of classroom kits includes quite a few new elements exclusive to the school-targeted kits, including a motorisable single-track system with embedded tread that would be ideal for a new-generation LEGO monorail. Official images demonstrate that this system includes just a straight and curved element at the time of writing, and that the pieces can be connected to standard studs. Both of these aspects are similar to the original monorail system.

The cars that connect to this track can handle steep inclines, too, thanks to those embedded treads. Aside from the lack of a sloping track element, it seems to be ideal for a new era of the LEGO monorail. Unfortunately, LEGO Education elements have only been available inside the corresponding kits so far, and there’s no guarantee that this promising system holds any hope of a comeback for the LEGO monorail.

For now, it will at least be worth watching this space, knowing that the LEGO Group is exploring new kinds of single-track transportation. LEGO Education Computer Science & AI will begin shipping in April 2026, starting at $339.95 per kit, which is a cost of only $84.98 per student.

LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.
