LEGO fans offer a round of applause for LEGO Ideas 21357 Luxo Jr.
The next LEGO Ideas set has been revealed, 21357 Luxo Jr., and the LEGO community has welcomed it with open arms.
21357 Luxo Jr. has been officially revealed and, 24 hours on from its reveal, the LEGO community has plenty of good things to say about it. Priced at £59.99 / $69.99 / €69.99, you won’t be able to get your hands on it until June 1, but you can pre-order it now if you want to get ahead of the curve. Read on for a rundown of everything people are saying about the upcoming LEGO Ideas set.
Round of applause for accuracy

As first impressions go, 21357 Luxo Jr. makes a good one. It really does look just like a mechanical lamp, leading into using LEGO studs and twisting elements to look like actual parts of a lamp. That’s not gone unnoticed by fans.
“I’m really impressed,” wrote eemil666 on reddit. “The springs look so accurate, I first thought the LEGO Group has released real metallic springs.”
“The building techniques look pretty inscrutable here,” agreed SolidStateEstate further down the same thread. “At this scale, I can see why it took so long to develop. If this thing can articulate, it will be incredibly impressive.”
Could a light brick be even better?

If there’s one area that people are wishing for an improvement, it’s in the bulb itself, with rys.benjamin writing on the official Instagram reveal: “Brilliant, but the lamp should work for real.”
Others in the reddit comments are pushing for a light brick, but to have it working like a real lamp, you’d run down that battery pretty fast. The soft orange bulb works pretty well, judging from the photos.
If you’re really desperate, there are some people like BakaHntai on reddit already planning to make their own modifications, commenting: “If I were going to pick this up, I would add an LED battery bulb to make it light up.” Keep your eyes peeled for custom builds like that once it’s out in the wild and you might get lucky.
Mixed views on price

As with any LEGO set, talk also turns to the price of 21357 Luxo Jr. – but people are divided on whether it’s good value or not. It’s certainly a high price per piece ratio, but you do get some brand-new parts and larger elements, even if there aren’t any minifigures.
“I think it’s fantastic, captures the original Pixar short perfectly,” mused BerghBricks on reddit. “$70…seems a bit steep, probably due to some large parts with the ball and the ‘head’ of the lamp. I will definitely get it, but will probably wait until a 25% off-ish deal at another retailer.”
“£60 doesn’t seem like an awful price for this, to be honest,” wrote ollib1304 on reddit, on the other side of the argument. “It’s not top of my list, but then I’m at a point where very little new that’s released is getting to the top of my list right now, but I can see a world in which I get this as a cute display piece.”
Pixar fans can’t wait

Ultimately, if you’re a diehard Pixar fan, it’s going to be hard to resist picking this up. The display-ready nature of the LEGO Ideas set means it will slip easily into an existing collection, and people already have ideas about where it will go.
“This is going to look so cute next to 43230 Walt Disney Tribute Camera,” wrote mariia_mouse on Instagram, while collectionswithcece added further down: “Never have I needed a LEGO set like I need this! As a Pixar collector, this is a must-have.”
LEGO Ideas 21357 Luxo Jr. is available for pre-order right now, is priced at £59.99 / $69.99 / €69.99 and launches on June 1, 2025.
