Five things we’ve spotted in the LEGO Marvel Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 sets

Following an earlier reveal of three LEGO Marvel Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 sets, here are five things we’ve spotted in the new models.

Timed to arrive a month before their big screen source material, three new Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 sets were announced by the LEGO Group earlier today. Scheduled for launch on April 1, 76253 Guardians of the Galaxy Headquarters, 76254 Baby Rocket’s Ship and 76255 The New Guardians’ Ship are all based on James Gunn’s final movie for Marvel Studios, completing his Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy.

Each model offers something different in terms of builds, minifigures and price points, with most of the upcoming film’s characters present (except for Gamora). After taking a good look at the images released for the three new LEGO Marvel Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 sets, here are five things we’ve spotted:

The first Adam Warlock minifigure

Based on a character called ‘Him’ who first appeared in Fantastic Four #66, Adam Warlock is an artificially-created cosmic being with immense power. In Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 the gold-skinned character is played by Will Poulter and was revealed in the recent trailer for the film that aired during the Super Bowl. This is the first time Adam Warlock has appeared as minifigure in any LEGO set.

An all-new Guardians ship

Making its debut in the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special on Disney+ last year was the Bowie, a ship that replaced the team’s previous ride, the Benatar. Also named after an iconic rock legend, the new vessel is recreated in a scaled-down form in 76255 The New Guardians’ Ship, a 1,108-piece model that’s actually three craft in one.

Bulked-up Groot

No longer a teenager, the Flora colossus known as Groot has grown into a much stronger character, as evidenced by the minifigure included with 76253 Guardians of the Galaxy Headquarters. Appearing to be nearly identical to the minifigure included in 76231 Guardians of the Galaxy Advent Calendar, this new version of Groot now boasts a spiky shoulder piece to represent his additional bulk.

New Nova Corps uniforms

Ditching their custom gear, the Guardians of the Galaxy have replaced their signature scruffy looks for snazzy Nova Corps uniforms. We’re not quite sure as to why exactly the team decides to go for an identical look just yet, but hopefully that question will be answered when Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 arrives in cinemas on May 5, 2023.

Missing movie characters

There are a number of key characters missing from the three new LEGO Marvel Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 sets, all of whom can be glimpsed in the first trailer for the upcoming film. These include Gamora, Cosmo the Spacedog, Ravager Kraglin Obfonteri, and the movie’s primary nemesis, Chukwudi Iwuji’s High Evolutionary. Whether they will appear in any potential future LEGO Marvel sets has yet to be confirmed.

All three LEGO Marvel Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 sets will be available from April 1, with 76253 Guardians of the Galaxy Headquarters priced at £8.99 / $9.99 / €9.99, 76254 Baby Rocket’s Ship at £29.99 / $34.99 / €34.99 and 76255 The New Guardians’ Ship at £89.99 / $99.99 / €99.99.
