LEGO Harry Potter’s latest Diagon Alley set compared to the biggest

LEGO Harry’s summer 2023 selection is starting to be revealed, including an alternative to 75978 Diagon Alley with plenty of comparisons.

Detailed earlier today on the official online store, 76422 Diagon Alley: Weasleys’ Wizard Wheezes is launching on June 1, 2023, for £84.99 / $89.99 / €94.99, a fraction of the price of 75978 Diagon Alley which includes the shop and more buildings.

Though it’s not quite as big as the section in the massive LEGO Diagon Alley model, the upcoming Harry Potter set is filled with details that make it comparable to the massive creation. 75978 Diagon Alley costs £389.99 / $449.99 / €449.99.

Exterior

The exterior of the two models is similar, though there are a few differences. The figure sticking out of the circular window section is almost entirely brick-built in 75978 Diagon Alley but in 76422 Diagon Alley: Weasleys’ Wizard Wheezes, it uses a sticker on the face for some of the finer details.

75978 Diagon Alley’s Weasleys’ Wizard Wheezes segment also has three walls to the two in the 2023 set.

Interior

The inside of the two builds is where the most differences lie. In 75978 Diagon Alley, the stairs and all three floors while the 2023 model has only two floors and no stairs.

The latter build also has less space to work with, though is deeper with just as much colour.

References

In 75978 Diagon Alley, products in the joke shop include printed designs for at least five named products. However, 76422 Diagon Alley: Weasleys’ Wizard Wheezes includes designs for some of these products and more, including the sticky trainers and Peruvian Instant Darkness Powder.

Umbridge’s unicycle figure is included in 76422 Diagon Alley Weasleys’ Wizard Wheezes but is not included in 75978 Diagon Alley, possibly due to the depth of the space available.

Minifigures

Both Fred and George appear in 75978 Diagon Alley and 76422 Diagon Alley: Weasleys’ Wizard Wheezes as the owners of the popular shop.

However, while the larger set has more figures than 76422 Diagon Alley: Weasleys’ Wizard Wheezes with a total of 15 (and two mannequins), it only has just over double the amount of minifigures for more than four times the price.

Additions

75978 Diagon Alley includes much of the street from the Wizarding world, a feat that 76422 Diagon Alley: Weasleys’ Wizard Wheezes can’t hope to live up to.

However, the Owl Post is exclusive to the 2023 set and connects to one of the two attachment points in 76422 Diagon Alley: Weasleys’ Wizard Wheezes.
