LEGO is hiding in Rita Ora’s new album cover

Rita Ora’s latest album cover features a familiar LEGO set, which the British singer-songwriter has previously described as her ‘proudest possession’.

The first British female solo artist to boast 13 songs in the UK top 10 charts, Rita Ora is gearing up for the release of her third studio album, You & I. First announced on April 19, the record will debut on July 14. And nestled in the background of its newly-revealed album artwork will be a familiar sight to LEGO fans – or at least, LEGO fans with their finger on the BrickHeadz pulse.

Zoom in on the top right of the album cover, just underneath the white-noise monitor, and you’ll spot two of the five singers included in 40548 Spice Girls Tribute. The BrickHeadz five-pack debuted on shelves in March 2022, bringing to life brick-built representations of Geri Halliwell, Victoria Beckham, Emma Bunton, Mel B and Mel C. And it’s little wonder it’s found its way on to Ora’s next album cover…

“This is my proudest possession,” the ‘Let You Love Me’ singer told Architectural Digest in a video tour of her London home last October, before mimicking having her mind blown. Two of the five pop group members – Ginger Spice (Halliwell) and Posh Spice (Beckham) have made their way on to the album cover, prompting reactions from both LEGO Vice President of Design Matthew Ashton and the set’s designer, Dan Squirrell.

If you’re the kind of LEGO collector who snaps up anything pop culture with a link to the brick – we don’t doubt that you are out there somewhere – you’ll be able to grab Rita Ora’s You & I in physical formats from July 14. 40548 Spice Girls Tribute, meanwhile, is currently available for half price at LEGO.com. Not so readily available is Ora’s home dressing room, but c’est la vie.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
