LEGO Icons 10307 Eiffel Tower has some familiar pieces in unusual places
Revealed by LEGO Designer Rok Zgalin Kobe, LEGO Icons 10307 Eiffel Tower reuses a number of LEGO elements for ingenious purposes.
The real-life Eiffel Tower, despite once being the tallest structure in the world, has a number of minute details that highlight the dedication of the original designers. Kobe has done his best to replicate that, even down to the names of 72 French scientists, whose names are engraved on the tower along the first floor.
To recreate this effect, Kobe decided to use 72 LEGO ingots around the first floor, to add extra detail to the build and pay homage to the 72 scientists.
“We’ve repurposed a number of existing elements to serve a new function in the LEGO model,” explained Kobe, speaking in the LEGO Designer interview published on the company’s YouTube channel.
On top of the ingots, the build also includes dark grey hotdogs for the curved railings on the tower, bucket handles for the tip of the antenna at the top of the tower, and rollercoaster pieces to create the Eiffel Tower’s lower arches in between the four legs.
Repurposing previously-used LEGO elements in new colours or in unique positions means that LEGO designs can go further, helping to streamline the design and manufacturing processes.
LEGO Icons 10307 Eiffel Tower is available to buy from LEGO.com and in physical stores from November 25. It will cost of £554.99 / $629.99 / €629.99.
