LEGO Icons 10307 Eiffel Tower officially revealed with 10,001 pieces

The LEGO Group has unveiled its latest LEGO Icons landmark, the monstrously massive 10307 Eiffel Tower, which weighs in at an eye-watering 10,001 pieces.

Standing an incredible 149cm – or almost five feet – high, 10307 Eiffel Tower is far and away the tallest LEGO set of all time. It also sails past its predecessor, 2007’s 10181 Eiffel Tower, in pretty much every way, with 6,573 more pieces adding an extra 41cm in height. That naturally means there’s a much more detailed build on offer here, too, from the base covered in tiny trees to the tower’s wrought-iron trusswork, observation platforms, elevators and Tricolore flag.

It’s a formidable and maybe slightly daunting build, but one that – when finished – can at least be broken into four sections for easy transport. You know, just in case you fancy taking your Eiffel Tower on a road trip. Or, more likely, for when you’re moving it from one room to another as you try to figure out exactly where you’re going to display it. The square base measures 57cm in each direction, so it’s not only the sheer height you’ll need to contend with.

“We wanted to find the ultimate LEGO expression for the engineering and architectural masterpiece that is the Eiffel tower,” said LEGO designer Rok Žgalin Kobe. “We followed the structural principles of the original tower as closely as the LEGO System would allow. During the build you’ll uncover interesting, novel LEGO building techniques that bring the tower’s architectural features to life in LEGO bricks.

“Once complete you can imagine the breath-taking feeling of standing at the top and looking across the rich history of the city of Paris. It is the perfect set for travel and architecture fans alike.”

10307 Eiffel Tower will be available from Black Friday, or November 25, at LEGO.com and in LEGO Stores – and it actually comes in at a slightly cheaper price tag than you may have been expecting, at £554.99 / $679.99 / €629.99. Those playing along at home will remember those prices once applied to 10294 Titanic, prior to the LEGO Group’s implementation of its wider price increases earlier this year.

Last year’s biggest LEGO Icons set now retails for £589.99 / $679.99 / €679.99, so you’d have been forgiven for thinking 10307 Eiffel Tower would occupy the same price point. Instead, the LEGO Group has seemingly reverted back to its original top-end bracket for the Parisian icon – at least if the prices in its press release are correct. And they aren’t always, so, keep an eye on Brick Fanatics for final confirmation of the set’s price.

Update: The US price for 10307 Eiffel Tower is actually $679.99, matching 10294 Titanic.

Update 2: The US price has changed to $629.99.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
