It appears as if there may actually be a surprising level of functionality packed into the upcoming LEGO Icons 10318 Concorde.
The LEGO Group officially revealed 10318 Concorde this week, with the 2,083-piece set coming in to land on September 4 for VIPs. The LEGO Icons build will then a receive a wider launch for everyone else from September 7, with the model priced at £169.99 / $199.99 / €199.99.

Measuring 105cm long, 15cm tall and 43cm wide, 10318 Concorde is based on the world-famous supersonic commercial passenger plane of the same name, an aircraft that once made the flight from London to New York City in less than three hours.
Despite having a fairly basic design and a narrow fuselage, 10318 Concorde looks like it may well manage to pack a surprising level of detail and functionality into its slim form. For starters, the plane’s iconic nose section has been faithfully recreated, with the ability to lower the tiltable front of the aircraft to simulate landing mode (giving the pilots greater visibility) or raised for take-off.
Moving around 10318 Concorde showcases the vehicle’s distinctive delta wings with moveable elevons, as well as hinged upper and lower rudders at the rear. Removing part of the fuselage reveals an accessible seating area (plus two toilets), while detaching panels further back gives insight into the model’s functioning landing gear, constructed from numerous Technic pieces. The latter appears to be operated by turning the tail section of the model to lower and raise all three main sets of wheels.
The LEGO Icons build also boasts a retractable tail bumper wheel, which the real-life plane would have used to accommodate the high angles of the aircraft during take-off and landing. A display stand with printed information plaque rounds out what looks to be an authentic and impressive addition to the collection of any fan of classic aviation.
10318 Concorde will be taking off on September 4 for VIP members priced at £169.99 / $199.99 / €199.99, with everyone else being able to pick up the LEGO Icons model on September 7. For more information on the supersonic set, be sure to check out our visual tour and gallery right here.
