Is LEGO Icons 10320 Eldorado Fortress too nostalgic?

The LEGO Group’s trend of sets based on classic models and themes resulted in 10320 Eldorado Fortress this year, though it may be too nostalgic.

The question of whether LEGO designers are too focused on paying homage to classic sets in new models, eschewing new techniques and colours in favour of nostalgia is nothing new. However, we’ve had the chance to explore this topic while putting together the latest callback LEGO model – 10320 Eldorado Fortress.

Our new video offers a walkthrough and discussion of this question, specifically in relation to the modern LEGO Pirates set, which is based on 1989’s 6276 Eldorado Fortress. One of the most appropriate non-LEGO comparisons may surprise you.

It turns out that putting together the model and giving it a chance may just change your mind, but we won’t spoil the ending here. However, whether a LEGO set is too nostalgic ultimately comes down to personal preference and just how much you want a set to be like the good old days.

LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.
