LEGO is finally giving Star Wars fans a Darksaber

The LEGO Group has finally found time to bring a much-anticipated element to the LEGO Star Wars theme.

The Darksaber has been an important part of Star Wars canon for years now – but never more so than in The Mandalorian Season 3. The titular Mandalorian, Din Djarin, is the current bearer of the renowned weapon, but it was recently taken up by none other than Bo-Katan Kryse, would-be ruler of Mandalore.

The Darksaber, in case you didn’t know is thought to be wielded by the true ruler of Mandalor and can only be rightfully gained through combat. Even then, as seen with Din Djarin, it’s not an easy weapon to wield. Despite its weight in the Star Wars universe, it hasn’t yet been seen in a LEGO Star Wars set – until now.

The reveal of 75361 Spider Tank has also unveiled the first LEGO Darksaber element. Just like in The Mandalorian, it looks very different from a lightsaber, with an angled blade that represents its unique shape and colour. The handle is a darker grey to the blade’s black, creating an authentic contrast that stays close to the original source material.

We learned from the LEGO Group last year that changing production schedules meant that there was simply no time to create a Darksaber element before now. With the wave of sets currently tied to The Mandalorian Season 3, it’s heartening to see that the LEGO Star Wars designers have finally found the time, seeing as it looks like the Darksaber will be playing a crucial role in the events that lie in wait for Din, Grogu, and the rest.
