LEGO Jurassic Park skeleton set should look familiar
The new LEGO Jurassic Park 76968 Dinosaur Fossils: Tyrannosaurus rex should look familiar for fossil fans as it almost entirely re-uses a build.
Despite the 2,500-piece difference between them, the new 76968 Dinosaur Fossils: Tyrannosaurus rex has a head which is almost the same as the skull in 76964 Dinosaur Fossils: T. rex Skull, expanding on the 2024 model with the rest of the dinosaur’s skeleton.

That’s no joke – the skull builds between the new £219.99 / $249.99 / €249.99 set and the older £34.99 / $39.99 / €39.99 model only have a few minor differences, many of which you probably wouldn’t spot until you looked closely.
Most of the differences are located towards the back of the skulls with the 2025 model having more shaping and structure at the back since it needs to be attached to the rest of the enormous brick-built body, attached via a new joint element to boot. This is achieved by an extra section of studs at the back, which in turn hold the jaw in place via a revised system too.

The jaw has been majorly changed in the 2025 build to feature two fewer teeth in favour of a wedge piece and a redesigned shape that gives it more length and shaping compared to the 2024 model. A bracket piece also holds the sloped angular elements on the top half of the skull in place, where there was no such bracket in the 2024 model.
There are no other noticeable differences between the two skulls and it’s interesting to see what was and wasn’t changed between the two versions of the T. rex skeleton. Whether this means that 76969 Dinosaur Fossils: Triceratops Skull will get the rest of its body in the future is unknown, but there’s a clear precedent for it now.
You’ll be able to take a much closer look at the similarities and differences between the two LEGO Jurassic Park models when 76968 Dinosaur Fossils: Tyrannosaurus rex is released on March 15, or March 12 for LEGO Insiders. 76964 Dinosaur Fossils: T. rex Skull is available now for a much lower price for anyone who wants a T. rex taster.
