LEGO Kingdoms model is reborn in BrickLink Series 10

The BrickLink Designer Program is giving a concept from LEGO Kingdoms a new lease of life, including some much-needed upgrades.

One of the more recognisable and most recent LEGO Castle creations comes from Kingdoms, in the form of 10223 Kingdoms Joust. The 1,575-piece model depicts a small arched fortress with castle walls and stands for citizens to watch a joust between two factions. There are even tents for participants to prepare in.

That description should sound familiar, as it mostly matches an official LEGO set coming in Series 10 of the BrickLink Designer Program. While we only have the fan design of the latter to go on for now, they usually don’t change too drastically.

Moccermommy’s The Joust uses nearly twice as many pieces as the retired Kingdoms model, and every aspect of that original set is present in the limited-edition July 2027 set. There’s a castle in the middle, stands at either side, a central jousting area, tents for the rival factions and even some semblance of that iconic arch.

There’s no denying that with the increased piece count, the BrickLink Designer Program set upgrades almost every part of the original model. The stands are bigger and more elevated, and the fortress has an enclosed back, yet it also has a substantial interior.

Some of the biggest differences between the sets lie in the factions they represent. While the Kingdoms build included the Lion Knights and Falcon Knights, the BrickLink Series 10 set reflects the modern era of Castle, with the Horse Knights, Griffin Knights, Serpent Knights and Kraken Warriors.

The standalone stand for the royal family has also been integrated into the main fortress in the 2027 model. One unfortunate downgrade is the lack of any armour or caparison for the horses. Such pieces are no longer available, and it’s one area where 10223 Kingdoms Joust has a significant advantage.

Whether you missed out on 10223 Kingdoms Joust or want an accompanying model for it, The Joust will go up for crowdfunding in Series 10 in February 2027. It’s one of five finalists in Series 10.

LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.
