LEGO Darth Vader: from bust to helmet and back again

LEGO Darth Vader’s sculptures are returning to their roots later this year, going from bust to helmet and back to a bust of a similar size.

The first two LEGO Star Wars bust builds in the recent collection were revealed earlier today. While Yoda’s history of LEGO sculptures is as varied as it is terrifying, Darth Vader’s LEGO sculptures aren’t quite as diverse, especially in recent years.

The upcoming 75439 Darth Vader Bust isn’t the first Darth Vader bust. That would be 2019’s convention-exclusive 75227 Darth Vader Bust. That first bust was only available to a limited group of LEGO fans, and the next Darth Vader sculpture would depict just the helmet.

75304 Darth Vader Helmet expanded on the concept of the 327-piece model with over 500 pieces. It fits in with the wider LEGO helmet collection, since there was no such range for busts outside of convention-exclusives and retired sets previously.

Now that busts have started in LEGO Marvel, Darth Vader’s LEGO sculptures can return to their 2019 roots, taking a few lessons from 75304 Darth Vader Helmet to boot. Those lessons include a printed piece for the mouth mesh, down from two printed pieces in the helmet.

There are also wheel arches above the eyes, rather than curved plates as they appeared in the 2019 bust. Other changes have been made to the Darth Vader helmet, since it’s designed at a different scale and with a different piece count.

75439 Darth Vader Bust will be released on April 26, 2026, for £44.99 / $49.99 / $49.99. It launches alongside 75438 Yoda Bust, and you can take a closer look at both busts in our announcement report.

LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.
