LEGO Legends of Chima lives on in LEGO Dreamzzz

LEGO Legends of Chima has long since retired but a major element of the theme appears to live on in the upcoming LEGO Dreamzzz.

Lasting from 2013 to 2015, one of LEGO The Legends of Chima’s most iconic aspects was its array of animal-shaped vehicles, but LEGO Dreamzzz appears to be taking that concept a bit more literally.

In some of the recently released teasers using NINJAGO characters Kai, Nya, Zane and Master Wu, several animal and vehicle combinations are featured.

These include a crocodile car, a tortoise van and a shark ship. The crocodile vehicle especially evokes the water and land transportation of the crocodile tribe in Legends of Chima. Looking at the Dreamzzz creation compared to 70001 Crawley’s Claw Ripper and 70006 Cragger’s Command Ship, the similarities are clear.

Though there were no tortoise or shark tribes in Legends of Chima, the concept of combining animals with vehicles is nothing new for the LEGO Group. However, the connections between these two themes don’t end there.

Later in LEGO Legends of Chima’s lifespan, a line of legend beasts included larger animals for minifigures to ride, similar to the giant rabbit featured in Kai’s LEGO Dreamzzz video.

While the link between Legends of Chima and LEGO Dreamzzz is likely coincidental, we’ve already seen one theme crossover with the new range – NINJAGO. There looks to be just under a month to go until the next news for LEGO Dreamzzz arrives, leaving time for more marketing in the meantime.

LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.
