The LEGO Lunar New Year 2024 sets call back to the start

The LEGO Group has lifted the curtain, literally, on its 2024 Chinese Traditional Festivals sets and more – including some deep-cut references.

As is tradition for this time of the year, the LEGO Group have shared more details on the LEGO Chinese Traditional Festivals sets for 2024, as well as a massive Monkie Kid set. We've had the chance to see these sets in person and their designers have provided more details on two of the new sets.

80113 Family Reunion Celebration is a nearly complete two-storey building filled with details and unique minifigures to create memorable scenes of a family reunion. We're not going to spoil every secret from our new video, though the designer did reveal that the minifigures include the same family from 2019's 80101: Chinese New Year's Eve Dinner – the first LEGO Chinese Traditional Festivals set. It's a reunion in more ways than one.

Also showcased earlier this year to Brick Fanatics was LEGO Monkie Kid's huge 80054 Megapolis City 5th Anniversary. Similar to 80036 The City of Lanterns, this model is packed to the brim with details calling back to past moments in the theme as well as wider LEGO history. In contrast to most LEGO Monkie Kid sets, there's no conflict in the city and all included villains have been transformed into business owners or regular citizens.

For LEGO Monkie Kid enthusiasts, 80054 Megapolis City 5th Anniversary appears to be a unique take on the theme's usual action-packed builds.
