LEGO Lunar New Year GWP officially revealed

An official reveal of the upcoming LEGO Lunar New Year gift-with-purchase on the online LEGO store reveals the compact build’s functionality.

The LEGO Group has uploaded a listing for 40611 Year of the Dragon, the latest in a long line of Lunar New Year gifts-with-purchase that are themed to the zodiac animal of each year. 2024 is the year of the dragon, resulting in a colourful dragon-themed build. While there’s still no word on the minimum spend or dates of the GWP, the listing appearing online means that these details are sure to be just around the corner. To give some idea of what to expect, 2023’s equivalent GWP was available on all orders over £80 / $85 / €85.

Looking at the back of the box for 40611 Year of the Dragon, now visible for the first time thanks to the official LEGO photos, we can get some idea of the functionality of the model. Despite having only 214 pieces, the dragon’s mouth can open and close, the tail can move across three articulated joints, and it appears to be able to slide on and off the cloud-style, blue-and-white base that it sits on, as if it were flying.

As noted above, there’s no word yet on when 40611 Year of the Dragon will be available but with Lunar New Year falling on February 10, previous Lunar New Year GWPs starting in mid-January, and no current GWPs available, we’d expect it very soon.
