LEGO Marvel 76210 Hulkbuster has an unexpected ally

76210 Hulkbuster – a recent release in the LEGO Marvel theme – has some compelling synergy with another LEGO Marvel product. 

While the size (and cost) of LEGO Marvel sets continues to trend upwards, that’s not always worked in the sets’ favour. A recent example of this is 76210 Hulkbuster, the latest in a long line of LEGO Hulkbuster models. Although the set boasts impressive detail and some inventive parts usage, LEGO fans have identified various problems with the design – including some fragile components and skewed proportions compared to the source material.

Those compromises were introduced to accommodate 76206 Iron Man Figure, a smaller LEGO Marvel set with a rather different target audience. The weaknesses of the new Hulkbuster may not have been enough to justify that choice, but a new discovery may change your mind.

Instagram user nickibricks_ has posted a new picture online, suggesting that 76217 I am Groot can also fit inside the Hulkbuster’s pilot compartment. This brick-built recreation of the LEGO tree-person has proven surprisingly versatile, capable of both driving a Vespa and conquering the universe. From that perspective, we probably should have seen this coming.

It’s not clear if Groot can fit in the Hulkbuster un-modified – and you obviously can’t close the helmet over his more bulbous head. However, the image appears to have been taken inside a LEGO store, which indicates it’s been added as-is. Either way it’s an intriguing combination of sets – in a year of impressive compatibility between the LEGO Group’s large-scale creations.
