LEGO Minas Tirith’s minifigures are full of firsts

LEGO Minas Tirith has a packed cast of minifigures, featuring all kinds of firsts for the range and theme, with only one repeated outfit.

11377 The Lord of the Rings: Minas Tirith finally depicts the walled city with over 8,000 pieces and 10 minifigures (12 counting statues), and those new minifigures come with several firsts for any The Lord of the Rings set.

Most of these characters have appeared in either the LEGO Icons The Lord of the Rings sets or the film franchise’s now-retired theme. However, the majority of them have brand new outfits with an unparalleled level of detail. Here’s a closer look at all of the new minifigures, as well as how they compare to their on-screen appearances.

Gandalf the White

Gandalf the White is the only repeated minifigure in 11377 The Lord of the Rings: Minas Tirith, also appearing in 79007 Battle at The Black Gate. The minifigure now more closely matches the outfit that you can see on the big screen, with more than just white hues in the outfit to make the finer details pop.

It’s a fairly dramatic change for this LEGO The Lord of the Rings minifigure, but still an overall upgrade with the addition of hip and leg printing.

Faramir

Faramir’s first minifigure in 11377 The Lord of the Rings: Minas Tirith has detailed printing on the torso, as well as a green cape to match his outfit in the movies. The minifigure’s face print has defined cheekbones and facial hair to match actor David Wenham, too.

Denethor

Denethor’s sour expression has been captured excellently in his first minifigure, matching actor John Noble. The minifigure’s outfit is suitably plush and luxurious, but with some armour underneath.

Peregrin Took

The first-ever Peregrin Took minifigure isn’t the first minifigure of the character commonly known as Pippin, but it is the first time that the character has been equipped with the signature black armour, with the exposed feet.

Aragorn as King Elessar

Aragorn is a character we have seen in other LEGO The Lord of the Rings sets, but never in the role of King Elessar. It’s one of the best minifigures in 11377 The Lord of the Rings: Minas Tirith with printing across the armour, arms and legs. All that’s really missing is additional detailing on that new hair and crown element.

Arwen

Arwen returns from 10316 The Lord of the Rings: Rivendell, but with the white tree banner and green dress from the ceremony with Aragorn. It’s not the most exciting of the minifigures in 11377 The Lord of the Rings: Minas Tirith, yet still stands out with the arm printing.

Soldiers of Gondor

Four Soldiers of Gondor minifigures fill out the rest of the minifigure selection, featuring a mixed bag of face prints. The focus here is on the armour and shield, with printing to match the detailing from the film, as well as a new helmet piece.

Four is enough to populate the set, but you’ll need a lot more for a full army. It unfortunately seems unlikely that these pieces will land on Pick a Brick later this year, either.

Shadowfax

While Shadowfax isn’t quite a minifigure, the horse still deserves a spot in this list. The figure for them in 11377 The Lord of the Rings: Minas Tirith is by no means revolutionary for LEGO horses, but it works adequately in representing the horse.

LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.

I’ll never ever own this set, but dang, if I don’t need that Denethor head for a custom Walter Bishop figure.

The Gondor guard helmets are superb. I’m sure they could’ve done those wings as prints, but man alive, why not go for it, eh?

Faramir, the absolute lad, looks amazing. That white tree print. The hair has a bit more body than his hugefig counterpart, but it certainly shows his quality.

Very glad Lego continues to make elf-ear headpieces. The recoloured Wonder Woman tiara/wig piece in the latest CMF is lovely, but elves need their ears, if only to hear what the dwarves are saying about them. Oh! Looks like there’s a reddish-brown ear/wig headpiece on PAB now. Bit odd to have reddish-brown on reddish-brown, but hey. Wicked.

Yeah, these are great. We’ve seen a surprising amount of licensed minifigure parts on PAB in recent times. I’ve said it before, sorry, but I got Madame Rosamerta, whoever that is, plus Jude Law’s Captain Jod. I won’t hold out hope of acquiring any wooden shield pieces, but the heads…the Death Star heads are up now. Don Henderson. A man can dream.
