LEGO Minecraft’s new witch minifigure has major changes

The first reviews for LEGO Minecraft 21248 The Pumpkin Farm reveal major changes to the witch minifigure after six years.

Take a first look at 21248 The Pumpkin Farm as early reviews surface online for the upcoming LEGO Minecraft model. Launching on August 1 for £31.99 / $39.99 / €37.99, this 257-piece set is the latest swamp-centric build in the theme.

It hasn’t been long since the launch of 21240 The Swamp Adventure at the start of the year and this new set comes with the frog element too, but in grey. It may be more useful for those hoping to integrate the brick into detailed builds, similar to the Minecraft wolf heads in 10278 Police Station.

The printed frogspawn tile might be useful for detailing too and seems to currently be exclusive to 21240 The Pumpkin Farm.

One of the biggest highlights of 21248 The Pumpkin Farm is the new witch minifigure. However, this isn’t the first time that a witch has appeared in a LEGO Minecraft set. That honour goes to 2017’s 21133 The Witch Hut.

Cheesey Studios compares the two minifigures and there are two major differences between them.

While the 2017 witch minifigure uses a single hat and head combination piece, the 2023 witch minifigure has a separate hat brick that attaches to a standard villager head. The hat is also missing printing entirely. The separate hat consequently means more customisation with other LEGO Minecraft minifigures, similar to the sunhat in 21187 The Red Barn.

As Cheesey Studios points out, it’s a strange avenue for the LEGO Minecraft team to take considering that such fashion options aren’t available in the base game, where it’s limited to just different helmets. There are optional hats to equip in the skin creator on Bedrock edition, but these come from various creators in the community and vary wildly.

LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.
