New 6,000-piece LEGO NINJAGO City expansion set rumoured for 2023
A new LEGO NINJAGO City expansion is rumoured to be on the way in 2023, weighing in at over 6,000 pieces – making it the biggest NINJAGO set to date.
The LEGO Group resurrected its LEGO NINJAGO Movie modular building series out of the blue in 2021 with 71741 NINJAGO City Gardens, but hopes of a new annual subtheme were immediately dashed in 2022. It looks like the unique range may now be moving to a biennial release strategy, however, as Promobricks claims 71799 NINJAGO City Markets will launch in summer 2023.
Said to include a towering 6,163 pieces for $369.99 in the US, 71799 NINJAGO City Markets would instantly take the crown of NINJAGO’s biggest LEGO set of all time. For comparison’s sake, that’s a full 478 bricks over 71741 NINJAGO City Gardens, which is currently the theme’s largest set by piece count. We’re talking something seriously massive here.
To that end, it wouldn’t be a stretch to imagine 71799 NINJAGO City Markets as spanning more than just a 32×32-stud baseplate – in the same vein as 71741 NINJAGO City Gardens, in fact, which includes a separate shrine on a 16×32-stud baseplate – but further details beyond the set’s piece count and price are few and far between.
At the moment, we can only speculate on (or perhaps dream about) what such a product could entail. But given the bar set by all three previous models – 70620 NINJAGO City, 70657 NINJAGO City Docks and 71741 NINJAGO City Gardens – expectations are high. If 71799 NINJAGO City Markets exists at all – for now, it’s just a rumour, and should be taken with the customary grain of salt.

According to Promobricks, 71799 NINJAGO City Markets is due to hit shelves in June, almost two and a half years after 71741 NINJAGO City Gardens debuted. The good news is that you’ve still got plenty of time to catch up on that 5,685-piece set – but you’ll need deep pockets if you want to catch up on the rest of the series on the aftermarket.

Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
