LEGO NINJAGO Dragons Rising concept art reveals what could have been

A concept artist for LEGO NINJAGO has revealed what could have been for the second season of LEGO NINJAGO Dragons Rising.

The second season of LEGO NINJAGO has started around the world and the story is rumoured to not be over just yet. While we wait for whatever is next, concept artist for the LEGO Group Nikolaj Mårbjerg Severin has shared a peek behind the scenes of the season’s development.

The key visual for the second season is the final part of a collection of artwork that they have been sharing on their X (formerly Twitter) account. The ninjas are assembled on the left of the visual and the highlights include a different design for Riyu, Sora in a new purple outfit and Nya in an Elemental Mech. The appearance of Nya in an Elemental Mech doesn’t mean that she was going to get a set though as Nikolaj Mårbjerg Severin explains in a reply.

The other side of the visual is arguably more interesting as it features early designs for the new villains including Jordana and Cinder. Jordana’s early appearance seems to be highlighting her training with magic that she has been showcasing in the second season. Cinder’s outfit features a covered hood too, different to his physical minifigure.

In the background, a giant wolf character holding a sword is featured and this is not similar to anything seen in the season so far. It may be something reserved for the future or a concept designed solely for this key visual to help get across the idea of the second season.

Several LEGO NINJAGO Dragons Rising sets are available now as part of the January and March waves though plenty more are rumoured to be on the way. Take all rumoured information with caution until officially confirmed.

LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.
