Closer look at LEGO NINJAGO Thunderfang reveals he’s much bigger than you might think
The LEGO Group has offered a closer look at LEGO NINJAGO’s Thunderfang – and he’s much bigger than his set might have you believe.
LEGO NINJAGO increasingly showcases battles on a scale that it’s inevitably going to be tricky to render in LEGO bricks but a 90-second trailer for season 3 of Dragons Rising just published by the LEGO Group shows off just how massive Thunderfang is. Set to be recreated out of 668 pieces in 71832 Thunderfang Dragon of Chaos, the dragon appears to be only about five times the height of a minifigure – but the truth is far bigger.
In the show, one of Thunderfang’s feet is bigger than the houses in the City of Temples. When standing upright, he towers over even the tallest buildings. Looking at other dragons from pop culture, he’s much larger than most of the dragons on House of the Dragon, truly enormous when compared to most of the creatures in How To Train Your Dragon, and closer to the behemoth size of the dragons of Middle-earth.

That does mean that the scale of the sets will be slightly off – although we don’t want to think too hard about how much an accurate, minifigure-scale version of Thunderfang would cost. NINJAGO fans can rest assured, however that even though 71836 Arc Dragon of Focus has more pieces, it feels like the two brick-built dragons from both sets will still be to scale with one another.
The trailer depicts them as being equal in size to one another – roughly speaking, seeing as the Dragon of Focus has two heads – and that scale appears to carry through in the LEGO NINJAGO sets.

Check out the full look at Thunderfang’s backstory in the 90-second video below, coming hot on the heels of the teaser trailer for the third season. We’ve broken down some of the highlights you might have missed here.

It’s been pretty common for creatures and other things from the sets not to match their show scale. The Oni Titan from 2018 was similarly Kaiju-sized on screen.
