LEGO Sonic will welcome three new minifigures to the theme
After various rumours and peeks at possible designs, the LEGO Group has now confirmed that three Sonic characters will become minifigures for the very first time.
Back in September, we reported on rumours from Instagram user brick_clicker that not only would two new LEGO Sonic sets, 76995 Shadow’s Lab Escape and 76996 Shadow’s Mech Battle, be on their way on 2024, but also three minifigure firsts. Now, the LEGO Group has seemingly confirmed their arrival in a tongue-in-cheek teaser that blames Dr. Eggman for the trio’s delay.
Those characters are Knuckles (with a design already spotted in Sonic Superstars’ LEGO DLC), Shadow, and Rouge the Bat. Take a look at their respective designs below.
For those who don’t know, Knuckles is a red echidna, one of Sonic’s best friends and former rival. Unlike Sonic and Tails, who rely on agility and speed, Knuckles is more known for his strength, which he uses to his advantage with spikes on his fists, hence his nickname. Shadow is a black hedgehog, named as such because he often acts as a dark foil to Sonic, frequently appearing as an antagonist but occasional ally.
Last but not least, Rouge is, of course, a bat, as is clear from her purple wings. Her design is perhaps the most interesting of the three, with vibrant colours replicating her distinctive blue make-up and various heart motifs on both her torso and feet. Shadow also has some unique leg printing, all the way down to. his gold-toed trainers.
Check out the LEGO Group’s full teaser below. It doesn’t offer any indication of when we might expect the minifigures but the sets that they were first rumoured to be associated with are believed to be coming out in January, 2024. If a full reveal of these sets is around the corner, this would line up with the LEGO Group’s usual timelines for announcing sets.
