A plea to LEGO Speed Champions

The branding is one of the most instantly visible parts of any of the LEGO Speed Champions cars – and with 77248 BWT Alpine F1 Team A524, it’s a letdown. The logic behind needing to split bigger sponsors into two is clear: stickers can’t be split across two elements for longevity reasons. That doesn’t mean the end effect is any less disappointing, however.
No matter how close to the edge you manage to sticker the ‘BWT’ logo, you’re going to be left with an ugly black gap down the middle. For such a groundbreaking wave, every detail matters and creating a larger piece, even finding the budget to order a new one, would have been a welcome fix here. Even splitting the logo into three letters would have likely been better than cutting the ‘W’ in half.
As it stands, the split directly down the middle of a letter breaks the illusion of the miniaturised Formula 1 car from the very first glance. Running straight down the side of the car, it’s an eyesore that can’t be ignored.
A colourful build – literally

Thankfully, stickers are not the only way that 77248 BWT Alpine F1 Team A524 can convey colour. The build itself starts from the middle and works its way up, attaching the wings and wheels at the very end. Even on the inside of the build that you can’t typically see, there are a lot of colourful tiles and plates, as you can see when you look at the layers towards the back.
That helps to bring in some of the vibrancy that Alpine is known for as a Formula 1 team while keeping the authentic 2024 black look on the outside. The build manages to capture the brand of Alpine in a way that you could argue the 2024 livery didn’t, something fans of the team might welcome – but more on that later.
The build itself is therefore one of the most engaging and certainly easier than monochromatic ones where you’re struggling to tell the difference between black and dark blue. It’s therefore perhaps a good place to start for younger or less experienced builders, who still want to build some Formula 1 magic of their own.
An unfortunate year to capture the livery

As noted above, 77248 BWT Alpine F1 Team A524 has perhaps come at an unfortunate time for the team. 2024 saw one of its darkest liveries to date, as many of the teams shucked off their paint jobs in favour of carbon fibre to save weight. 2025 has seen Alpine reclaim its love of colour but 2024 was rather drab, in comparison.
That’s not to say there’s an absence of colour: the stickers, rear wing, engine intake, and rims all offer splashes of vibrancy. Looking ahead to the 2025 livery, however, Alpine fans might have been wishing that the LEGO Speed Champions team had waited a year before rending their team in brick form. Rest assured, a creative modder out there or custom sticker company is sure to plug that gap.
In the meantime, 77248 BWT Alpine F1 Team A524 delivers and engaging build despite its drab exterior and one we would heartily recommend as an easier one from the wave.
Honest opinion: 77248 BWT Alpine F1 Team A524 is an excellent entry point to the Formula 1 Speed Champions wave.
