LEGO Speed Champions debuts first set of its kind

LEGO Speed Champions is embracing something new this summer in a cross-brand double pack build, despite the parent company.

Of the three new LEGO Speed Champions sets coming this year, 77264 Jaguar F-TYPE Project 7 & Land Rover Defender Classic stands out from the crowd and not just for its size. The 740-piece model is one of the biggest double packs in the theme by piece count, but there’s something else about this build which should be notable to longtime fans.

This is the first time that two brands have been featured in a single set. Usually, only one brand is represented in a build, from Ford to Ferrari, but 77264 Jaguar F-TYPE Project 7 & Land Rover Defender Classic has both a Jaguar and a Land Rover vehicle.

This not only leads to a long name, but it also means that 77264 Jaguar F-TYPE Project 7 & Land Rover Defender Classic is the first LEGO Speed Champions set to mix brands. Jaguar and Land Rover were merged by Tata Motors in 2013 to form Jaguar Land Rover, but the two are still treated as different brands within the same company.

It seems to have opened a door for the LEGO Speed Champions team to cover two drastically different cars in a single set while covering both brands. This may well open the door to other cross-brand models in the future, such as a BMW and Mini build, or one for Audi and Lamborghini.

For now, 77264 Jaguar F-TYPE Project 7 & Land Rover Defender Classic is one of a kind, and it will launch on August 1, for £44.99 / $59.99 / €54.99. Stay up to date on what is coming to Speed Champions and more this summer in our comprehensive guide.

LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.
