LEGO animation brief confirms new Speed Champions Fast & Furious 2025 set

A brief for a new LEGO animation has confirmed that a new LEGO Speed Champions Fast & Furious set is on the way in 2025.

The LEGO Group has been working with content platform Tongal since at least 2020, and the Danish company’s latest brief is seeking pitches for stop-motion ads to ‘generate excitement about a new LEGO set featuring a female character and her vehicle from The Fast and the Furious franchise’. The model will apparently be a third-party Walmart exclusive in the US (which means it will only otherwise be available at LEGO.com and in LEGO Stores).

The brief states that the specifics of the project are ‘highly confidential’, but that the focus will be on a female character and a ‘fan-favourite vehicle’. It doesn’t specifically namedrop Speed Champions, but does say that one of the two ads will feature the new set alongside 2023’s 76917 2 Fast 2 Furious Nissan Skyline GT-R (R34) – essentially confirming that the two models will play nicely together.

While the brief doesn’t specify a particular female character from the Fast & Furious franchise, there’s really only one candidate who makes sense: Michelle Rodriguez’s Letty Ortiz. She’s the most prominent female driver in the series, and has raced plenty of memorable cars on screen – from the original film’s 1997 Nissan 240SX to Fate of the Furious’s 1966 Chevrolet Corvette C2 Sting Ray.

There’s one car from the laundry list that stands out most of all, though: the lime green and black 2011 Dodge Challenger SRT Letty drove in 2015’s Furious 7. Among the four LEGO Speed Champions sets currently rumoured for summer 2025 is 77237 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Race Car, which could easily wind up being another movie-inspired car with Fast & Furious branding (and a Letty minifigure).

On the other hand, if 77237 ends up having zero ties to Fast & Furious, it effectively rules out Letty’s Dodge Challenger (it’s hard to see the LEGO Group releasing two very similar cars even with one eye on its 10-strong Formula 1 wave in March). That would then leave the door open for any one of the other cars she drives throughout the franchise – and potentially a third wave of LEGO Speed Champions sets in 2025, or else a bolstered early summer range.

We probably won’t get finalised details on this one for quite a while, but the existence of a new LEGO Fast & Furious set is at least a dead cert now. And that means a return to movie-inspired cars in the Speed Champions theme for the first time since January 2023…

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.

The animation has yet to be made – this is just the brief inviting fans to take part in it, but it has revealed a new set!
