LEGO Spider-Verse minifigures compared to the movie designs

The next series of LEGO minifigure is all about the Spider-Verse, matching the designs from the movie closely through new elements and more.

71050 Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse has been revealed, with 12 minifigures to collect starting next month, and they’ll be a helpful way to pass the time until work is done on the third Spider-Verse movie. It will be worth rewatching the first two films, as well, to see how closely these minifigures are to their official designs.

Before they launch on September 1, here’s a look at how the 12 new Spider-Verse minifigures compare to their animated counterparts, even with the different animation styles in use.

Miles Morales / Spider-Man

The new Miles Morales minifigure is similar to that of 76311 Miles Morales vs. The Spot, but with the addition of printed legs that emphasise the dotted effect that helps to recreate the character’s animation style in the movie.

This Miles Morales minifigure is also different to that of 76311 Miles Morales vs. The Spot in that it features Miles’ lightning powers on full display. This consequently means that for a fully accurate Miles Morales minifigure, you’ll need to pick up the Spider-Verse set.

Spider-Punk

LEGO Spider-Punk captures the most important details of the character from the animated movie, using the same design as the LEGO Style used within Fortnite. The punk aesthetic is represented nicely through printing on all possible parts of the minifigure, and the new piece for the spike mohawk.

Much like the LEGO Style, it doesn’t manage to capture the paper cutout outline that surrounds the character in the film, but the attention to detail is still impressive, especially when you look at his guitar.

Miles G. Morales / Prowler

Miles G. Morales, otherwise known as the Prowler, has a new minifigure in 71050 Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse as well. For the most part, it compares well to the depiction of the character in the animated movie (seen most clearly through merchandise), though its legs are a shade lighter than they should be.

The pieces used for the mechanical fists are too big. Amending the latter wouldn’t be possible without another new piece, and there are already at least two debuting in this minifigure for his masked and unmasked hair piece.

Spider Gwen

While the new Spider Gwen minifigure is still lacking printing on the inside of the hood, it improves on the one in 76311 Miles Morales vs. The Spot with the addition of arm printing and detailing on the legs to represent her sneakers.

It’s not nearly as necessary as some of the other Spider-Verse minifigures in this series, thanks to 76311 Miles Morales vs. The Spot, but it still has some nice upgrades that make it more accurate compared to the outfit in the film.

Spider-Man 2099

The new Spider-Man 2099 minifigure in 71050 Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse may look similar to his original 2019 minifigure, but there are a few distinct design decisions that bring it closer to the animated depiction of Miguel O’Hara.

The stylised emblem on the torso and printed arms representing the spikes on the character’s forearms do a good job of matching the minifigure to the character in the movie, and that’s before you take into consideration the unmasked head and hair.

Spider-Man India

The first-ever LEGO Spider-Man India minifigure is a close match to the film thanks to some light, but necessary detailing and the exposed hair, which also uses a new element to get as close to the movie as possible.

The addition of an unmasked head increases the accuracy, though this minifigure is already close to perfect compared to the Spider-Man India seen in the second movie.

Cyborg Spider-Woman

Cyborg Spider-Woman appears to have been planned for a much larger role in the second movie, based on a deleted scene and a surprising amount of merchandise for a character that only appears briefly in the film. Thanks to this merchandise, we can compare Petra’s minifigure to her in-film appearance properly.

The minifigure’s effort to recreate Petra’s animated style is commendable, though the arm cannon is disappointing compared to that of the film. Otherwise, the spiked armour and mask elements do a good job of capturing the character’s armour, especially combined with the intricate printing across the minifigure.

Sun-Spider

71050 Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is home to our first Sun-Spider minifigure. Sun-Spider is a fan-created character that was so beloved that she was adapted into an official variant of Spider-Man, representing the queer and disabled communities in style. Pictured above is Sun-Spider’s comic design, but it’s the same as the movie.

This minifigure comes with new crutches, instead of using brick-built assemblies to properly represent the character’s implements, as well as a new backwards cap element. She is lacking some side-leg printing, but otherwise, this minifigure is a close match to the Spidersona turned superhero.

Spider-Byte

Spider-Byte’s design is suitably technological and digital, since this is an avatar of Margo Kess and not the real character. The minifigure follows this design choice by using as many transparent minifigure elements as possible, printed to represent the solid parts of her design.

The new and exclusive helmet element continues this level of accuracy, altogether making up an accurate and unique entry into 71050 Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.

Spider-Man & May “Mayday” Parker

Peter B. Parker and Mayday’s new minifigure recreates the character’s comfortable outfit from the second movie, and as much as it’s not as iconic an outfit as the stand Spider-Man suit, the minifigure pays close attention to the few details of the fluffy pink robe.

This specific minifigure design first appeared in Fortnite as a LEGO Style, but without MayDay. MayDay’s baby figure doesn’t have many details, but the inclusion of the beanie on a red baby head works to depict both the beanie as well as the infant’s hair. The main minifigure’s face print has a relaxed and friendly expression, much like the character.

Web-Slinger

Web-Slinger’s first minifigure features far fewer iconic Spider-Man design elements in its design, but this matches that of the animated movie, as shown in concept sketches shared by Kris Anka. The neck scarf mask design has been recreated using two elements, continuing the shape beyond the boundaries of a minifigure head.

The smaller number of Spider-Man details means that not only is this minifigure surprisingly accurate, but it will work well for non-Marvel minifigures as well, ad it may be one to buy a few of come September.

Werewolf Spider-Man

Werewolf Spider-Man design is exactly as described, a werewolf version of Spider-Man that has damaged his outfit with plenty of rips and shreds, revealing the thick fur under the suit. In this sense, the new minifigure in 71050 Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is a close match.

The use of the classic LEGO werewolf head with a printed mask design works well, working perfectly since the movie counterpart only has a mask draped over the eyes, limiting the required printing on the minifigure somewhat.

LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.
