One detail from the newly revealed LEGO SpongeBob SquarePants set could hint at what the next Bikini Bottom build might be.
Last week, the LEGO Group revealed two brand new LEGO SpongeBob SquarePants sets, bringing the iconic yellow sea sponge back for the first time in more than a decade. 40858 SpongeBob SquarePants Figure is a smaller BrickHeadz build, while LEGO Icons 11386 SpongeBob SquarePants: Bikini Bottom is a larger display model aimed at adult fans.
The LEGO Group has not confirmed whether SpongeBob's return is limited to these two sets or if more are planned. However, one small detail in LEGO Icons 11386 SpongeBob SquarePants: Bikini Bottom could hint that a LEGO Krusty Krab is next.
The clue comes from Squidward's new minifigure. SpongeBob's grumpy neighbour features a large moulded head to capture his animated appearance, but the mould also includes a small hole on top.
Plenty of LEGO moulded heads include holes, often to accommodate hats, helmets or other accessories. In Squidward's case, though, there are very few obvious accessories that would require one. The most likely candidate is his iconic Krusty Krab hat.
Both Squidward and SpongeBob wear the restaurant's tall white hats while working at the Krusty Krab, and the hole in Squidward's head would allow him to wear one just like a standard minifigure. If the LEGO Group has designed the mould with that accessory in mind, it could suggest the character is already prepared for a future Krusty Krab set.
It would also make sense historically. The LEGO Group first recreated the famous undersea restaurant in 2006 with 3825 Krusty Krab before updating it in 2009 with 3833 Krusty Krab Adventures. If SpongeBob's return proves successful, a modern LEGO Icons version of the Krusty Krab would be a natural next step.
Of course, this is purely speculation. There is no indication that the LEGO Group plans to release any additional SpongeBob SquarePants sets beyond the two already announced. Even so, if the theme does expand, the Krusty Krab feels like one of the most likely candidates.
