LEGO Star Wars 75294 Bespin Duel revealed

A new exclusive LEGO Star Wars set, 75294 Bespin Duel, has been listed on the Toys R Us Canada website.

LEGO Star Wars is introducing a new 18+ set to the theme, with 75294 Bespin Duel revealed on the Toys R Us Canada website, where it will be an exclusive product. Elsewhere in the world it is expected to be exclusive to other retailers.

The Canadian price is $49.94, but the price elsewhere has not yet been announced. No release date is confirmed at this stage.

75294 Bespin Duel recreates the epic duel between Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader, where the Dark Lord revealed his familial connection to his son. It is rumoured to have been intended as an exclusive for Star Wars Celebration Anaheim, the convention that has been cancelled as a result of the global pandemic.

Bizarrely, the 295 piece set has been labeled as 18+, encouraging children to steer clear of what looks to be a very playable model.

Here is the official product description:

Disconnect from the daily grind and reconnect with nostalgic Star Wars memories with this detailed Bespin Duel build-and-display LEGO model (75294). Marking the 40th anniversary of Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, it cleverly recreates the iconic Luke Skywalker vs. Darth Vader Cloud City duel scene.

It also has a display stand with a 40th anniversary nameplate to complete a wonderful centerpiece for your home or office. And don’t worry if you are a LEGO newcomer – step-by-step instructions are included so you can enjoy a stress-free building experience.

Looking forward to this model! A few of the best Star Wars sets are some of the small ones–such as Darth Vader Transformation. Instead of the 18+ label, I think this set should have been directed to an “8-80” range, or however that group is designated nowadays. And not only is the marketing directed at adults, it’s once again directed to those adults who don’t ordinarily build LEGO sets, as we have seen in the “black box” releases. I hope the LEGO group quickly learns to adjust its marketing to include existing LEGO builders like us, and better yet, to involve us in spreading the word and bringing new people into the hobby.

It is listed as 18+ because it is a Collector’s display set. The age range on the box doesn’t matter either. You can buy it and build it either way.
