LEGO Star Wars celebrates 25 years with short film festival

LEGO Star Wars’ 25th anniversary isn’t just being celebrated with new sets as a new short film festival has been announced, and more.

As well as a trio of new midi-scale ships and two other sets with exclusive never-before-seen minifigures, the LEGO Group are starting the 25th anniversary of LEGO Star Wars with the LEGO Star Wars 25-second Film Festival.

This opportunity invites LEGO Star Wars enthusiasts worldwide to submit a custom 25-second short film that recreates Star Wars moments from across the franchise or something entirely new. No prizes for guessing why the submitted films need to be that long. These can use LEGO Star Wars sets and minifigures you’ve collected from over the past two and a half decades.

“It’s been 25 years of true fun combining Lucasfilm’s expansive Star Wars galaxy with the ingenuity of the LEGO Group, offering fans exciting ways to recreate their favourite scenes, vehicles and characters from our stories,” said Paul Southern, Senior Vice President, Lucasfilm Franchise and Licensing, Disney Experiences.

“With the enthusiasm of our fans to engage with the Star Wars galaxy and express creativity through building, we look forward to continuing the legacy of fun for decades to come.”

That’s not all for the 25th anniversary of LEGO Star Wars though. Something has been announced to commemorate the reveal of LEGO Star Wars at the International Toy Fair in New York in 1999.

A massive model will be displayed at the LEGO booth at the Spielwarenmesse, otherwise known as the Nuremberg Toy Fair in Germany. This build depicts the logo for the 25th anniversary and it will be accompanied by a giant R2-D2.

The 27,797-piece recreation R2-D2 recreation will travel across Europe and the US throughout 2024, though exact details of where it is touring have yet to be announced.

More celebrations are coming over the year and it seems that this is just a taste of how the LEGO Group is celebrating one of the most iconic themes in their history this year.

The five new LEGO Star Wars 25th anniversary sets will launch on March 1. Click here to find out about the upcoming models.

LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.
