LEGO Star Wars Clone Commander Cody Helmet’s piece count a coincidence
The LEGO Star Wars design team has revealed that the specific piece count for 75350 Clone Commander Cody Helmet was a pure coincidence.
Three new additions to the LEGO Star Wars Helmet Collection recently arrived online and in-stores. 75349 Captain Rex Helmet, 75350 Clone Commander Cody Helmet and 75351 Princess Leia (Boushh) Helmet all launched on March 1, 2023, to mark the 20th anniversary of The Clone Wars and the 40th anniversary of Return of the Jedi respectively.
75350 Clone Commander Cody Helmet consists of exactly 766 pieces, sparking some debate around whether or not the number was a subtle nod to Chancellor Palpatine’s devestating Order 66 in Revenge of the Sith. In a recent roundtable interview with the LEGO Star Wars design team, Brick Fanatics raised the question in an effort to clear up any potential confusion regarding the set’s numbering.
“Ha, ha. Oh, yeah, I was just playing,” said Michael Lee Stockwell, Design Manager and Associate Lead on the LEGO Star Wars theme. “It’s a pure coincidence. And I hope that doesn’t spoil it for anybody, but it is just a coincidence.”
The team was also asked if it was a challenge to keep the piece count for the three sets as low as possible, whilst still accurately recreating the unique look of each helmet.
“We weren’t trying to keep the piece count down or anything,” said Jens Kronvold Frederiksen, Creative Lead on LEGO Star Wars. “I would say in general, with the helmets, there are different prices and different piece counts, and we’re just doing the best work to replicate them as closely as possible.”
“I was not even aware of the difference between the piece counts until quite late in the game,” Stockwell replied. “So no, we didn’t have a piece count target as such. It was more about achieving the best look possible.”
Recent rumours suggested that 75356 Endor Rebel Trooper Helmet was also due to arrive in 2023, but that’s now been debunked. That particular set number was ultimately allocated to 75356 Executor Super Star Destroyer, with the upcoming microscale model due to be released on May 1.
