LEGO Super Mario Donkey Kong reinvents LEGO bananas

One of LEGO Super Mario’s new Donkey Kong sets is reinventing everything we know about LEGO bananas with a new brick.

Launching on August 1, 2023, Donkey Kong is coming to LEGO Super Mario and the fruit-obsessed character is bringing a change to the LEGO bananas too. The piece has remained the same since it was introduced in 1998.

Thanks to 71424 Donkey Kong’s Tree House, your minifigures will no longer need to stock their homes and shopping carts with individual bananas as the first LEGO banana bunch is coming.

It makes sense for such a big change for LEGO bananas to debut in the Donkey Kong range and considering how creatively LEGO bananas have been used before, it will be interesting to see what the LEGO designers can do with a bunch of them. The piece appears to use a standard four-stud connection at the base with a horizontal bar grip at its peak too, similar to the existing banana element.

The new bunch element is used in 71424 Donkey Kong’s Tree House as a scannable accessory for Mario, Luigi and Peach to interact with and it’s also included in 71425 Diddy Kong’s Mine Cart Ride. Both sets launch on August 1, 2023, but 71424 Donkey Kong’s Tree House is available to pre-order now.
