Refreshed LEGO Super Mario packaging focuses less on course-building

Packaging for a trio of upcoming LEGO Super Mario sets reveals less of a focus on course-building than previous models from the theme.

This year’s annual MAR10 Day brought with it a surprise reveal, with three previously unseen LEGO Super Mario sets being announced. 71435 Battle with Roy at Peach’s Castle, 71436 King Boo’s Haunted Mansion and 71437 The Bowser Express Train are all due to be released on August 1, with at least six more builds rumoured to be arriving at some point in 2024.

Official listings for the trio of sets are already up on LEGO.com, although pre-orders have yet to go live. In addition, box art for the LEGO Super Mario models has also now been revealed thanks to German retailer Lucky Bricks, with the packaging for the upcoming builds having undergone something of a refresh.

71435 Battle with Roy at Peach’s Castle, 71436 King Boo’s Haunted Mansion and 71437 The Bowser Express Train now appear to focus less on the course-building elements of the theme and more on the actual sets themselves. Gone are the ghostly images of the interactive figures we’re used to seeing, with that specific functionality being relegated to the upper right-hand corner of each box.

Also missing from the front of the boxes are any mention of the builds being expansion sets, with the ability to add to existing courses being a key selling point of previous LEGO Super Mario releases. The packaging also introduces much more red into the box designs, a colour that’s already synonymous with Nintendo’s video game plumber.

You’ll be able to check out 71435 Battle with Roy at Peach’s Castle, 71436 King Boo’s Haunted Mansion and 71437 The Bowser Express Train when the new LEGO Super Mario models drop on August 1.

We don’t believe so, but surely it won’t be long until someone shares a fix online!
