LEGO teases two new Star Wars: Return of the Jedi 40th anniversary sets

The LEGO Group has teased two definitely-never-before-seen sets based on Star Wars: Return of the Jedi for the movie’s 40th anniversary.

In what will be brand new information to at least a few people reading this story, two LEGO Star Wars sets based on what looks like the Emperor’s throne room and the forest moon of Endor are apparently on the way in 2023. That’s according to the current header image for the official LEGO Twitter account, which teases a campaign hooked around childhood nostalgia – ‘Return of your Jedi Moments’ – with a glimpse at two new sets.

The model to the left of the photo frame looks like fragments of the second Death Star, including a new printed window behind the Emperor’s throne, while the pieces to the right allude to a set inspired by the speeder bike chase in Return of the Jedi. There’s a discarded Endor rebel trooper helmet, along with a Scout Trooper helmet, presumably pointing to two minifigures included in the set.

The presence of a printed LEGO Star Wars plaque next to the Emperor’s throne – which doesn’t feature Palpatine himself, but instead has a piece of Force lightning in his stead – also suggests that these are likely to be new LEGO Star Wars dioramas. Call it a hunch.

We don’t yet know when these sets will be fully and officially revealed, but with the annual LEGO Star Wars May the 4th event on the horizon – and at least one release already confirmed for May 1 in 75346 Pirate Snub Fighter – it must be just around the corner now. I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
