LEGO Star Wars May the 4th 2023 – everything we’re expecting to see
May the 4th 2023 will be here before you know it, so here’s everything we’re expecting from this year’s LEGO Star Wars Day promotions.
May 4 has long been adopted as Star Wars Day for its phonetic similarities with ‘May the Force be with you’, which for most of us just means a day to take advantage of LEGO Star Wars deals. The LEGO Group always comes through with something to celebrate the occasion, and in recent years other retailers have been getting in on the action too.
We’re still waiting on confirmation of what exactly we’ll see for May the 4th in 2023, but we can make educated guesses on what to expect based on previous years. Here’s everything we’re likely to see this May…
A full week of deals and offers
May the 4th is more than just a day: in 2022, the event ran all the way from May 1 to 8 at LEGO.com and in LEGO Stores, giving LEGO Star Wars fans a full week to take advantage of all the free gifts, double VIP points and other deals available online and in-store.
May 4 falls on a Thursday in 2023, and with at least one new set guaranteed to launch at the beginning of the month – 75346 Pirate Snub Fighter – we can see this year’s event stretching from May 1 to 7, wrapping up at the close of the weekend.
Freebies are pretty much a dead cert at this point, including at least one gift-with-purchase designed exclusively for May the 4th. Following a string of microscale scenes based on the original trilogy, the LEGO Group pivoted back to exclusive minifigures in 2022 – only this time, the brand new Aunt Beru came packaged alongside a buildable vignette.
There are plenty of other obscure characters we’d love to see get the same treatment for May the 4th in 2023, from The Mandalorian’s Doctor Pershing to Rogue One/Andor/Bad Batch alumnus Saw Gerrera. (Are any other LEGO Star Wars minifigures quite as overdue as Saw?)
That probably won’t be the only free gift available this year, as the LEGO Group usually offers multiple incentives to shop with different required spends. 30654 X-wing Starfighter feels like a safe bet, alongside presumably another new and limited-edition freebie.
Discounts on selected LEGO Star Wars sets
Even if the LEGO Group doesn’t offer direct discounts on LEGO Star Wars sets at LEGO.com and in LEGO Stores, third-party retailers will no doubt pick up the slack. Last year, John Lewis and shopDisney both offered very tempting deals on some of the biggest and best LEGO Star Wars sets around, including 75192 Millennium Falcon and 75313 AT-AT.
Zavvi, meanwhile, knocked up to 31% off a much wider range of LEGO Star Wars sets. We’ll hopefully see more of the same in 2023, including some tantalising discounts on brand new sets like 75331 The Razor Crest, 75347 TIE Bomber and 75349 Captain Rex Helmet.
Double VIP points
The LEGO Group has traditionally offered double VIP points – equivalent to 10% cashback – on its LEGO Star Wars line-up for May the 4th, but in 2022 severely limited the number of sets that were included in the deal. Most recent releases and 18+ sets were excluded, which stung for anyone hoping to maximise returns across the May the 4th period. Fingers crossed 2023 sees double VIP points applied to each and every LEGO Star Wars set.
A VIP sweepstake
Last year, the LEGO Group raffled off a signed copy of Anthony Daniels’ new book, ‘I Am C-3PO – The Inside Story’, along with copies of 75271 Luke Skywalker’s Landspeeder and 75257 Millennium Falcon. We wouldn’t be surprised to see another sweepstake in the VIP Rewards Centre for May the 4th in 2023, but who knows what prizes could be up for grabs this time…
